A day break from skiing the powder is perfectly spent taking in the sights and tastes of nearby Otaru. Scattered throughout the central port town are historic buildings, beautifully restored as cafes, restaurants, glassware and renowned chocolatier artisan houses.
A full day can be spent strolling through the main artisan street and canal district which is host to the world famous Candle Light Festival, held at the same time as Sapporo’s Snow Festival (please check exact dates with us first).
Try your hand at glass blowing, sample some of the finest, and most creative, chocolate imaginable and then of course there’s the array of local sushi – celebrated throughout Japan as one the hotspots for sushi connoisseurs.
Close to Otaru is also the world famous, multi-award winning Nikka Whisky Distillery – rich in history, aromas and of course tastes! Sample some of the finest Whisky in the world today and learn about the fascinating shared history of this small town with Scotland.
